How To Make Your PWC Faster Lucas Cooney July 6, 2018July 31, 2018 Images: Photos by BRP & RIVA Racing Shares Comments Are you a PWC owner who just wants to know how to make your PWC faster? The aftermarket offers plenty of ways to help you out. A modern performance PWC comes equipped from the factory with gobs of arm-stretching horsepower. But for some folks, that simply isn’t enough. With those speed demons in mind, we looked through the RIVA Racing catalog to show you how to make your PWC faster. Speed Control Override Module From the factory, PWC are restricted to a maximum speed of about 65 mph thanks to a handshake agreement with the U.S. Coast Guard. But just because the manufacturers are locked into that agreement doesn’t mean consumers are. The quickest way to make your PWC faster is to pick up a Speed Control Override Module. The Speed Control Override Module for the Kawasaki Ultra 310 and 300 models promises an extra three to four mph over stock. Plus you can make even more gains through aftermarket modifications (including some mentioned below). You can one up for about $200. Learn more about Speed Control Override Modules here. Power Filter The idea behind RIVA Racing’s Power Filter kits is to provide as much cool air to supercharged engines as possible. More clean air means this kit will make your PWC faster. RIVA has kits for a wide variety of different machines at a variety of price points. This kit for 2012-18 Yamaha FX SHO and FX SVHO models retails for $350. Here is what RIVA has to say about the kit: “Our Power Filter feeds your supercharged engine a steady diet of cool air delivering greatly improved acceleration and rpm. Replaces restrictive stock air box with a high-volume, precision-formed intake duct that attaches to the supercharger via a large 4” adapter. Cool air enters the system via an oversized K&N filter element. Includes water-repellent pre-filter and detailed installation instructions.” Learn more about the RIVA Power Filter Kit here. Impeller The impeller that comes stock on your PWC is good, but it is designed to work for everybody in most every situation. When you want to take performance to the next level, a SOLAS impeller can help make your PWC faster. RIVA carries a variety of SOLAS impellers for PWC and this simple switch can improve acceleration and top end speed by providing more power to your craft’s jet pump. SOLAS impellers feature a large area and unique geometric blade design. They are built using high-strength stainless steel and feature a polished hub and hub-end water seal for reduced cavitation. Prices range from about $190 to $300. Learn more about SOLAS impellers here. Stage 1 and Stage2 Kits If you want to go really big while you make your PWC faster, you need to look into RIVA Racing’s Stage 1 and Stage 2 kits. You can even look into a Stage 3 or Stage 3 Plus kit, but that is a pretty massive financial commitment you can read about here.
