PWC rider sets two world records in one day

Eric Lagopoulos shines on “Guinness World Records Day”

With a goal of raising money for charity and getting into the Guinness Book of World Records, Eric Lagopoulos aimed to spend a lot of time going very fast on his personal watercraft.

The Long Boat Key, Fla. rider was trying to break three separate world records on Thursday, Nov. 13. Lagopoulos set his first record by riding his Sea-Doo RXT iS 286 miles in six hours. He kept going to break the record for most miles on a PWC in 24 hours by riding an impressive 886 miles. The third record will have to wait for another day as Lagopoulos was unable to record the fastest time to 1,000 kilometers thanks largely to inclement weather.

The records still have to be submitted to Guinness for verification, but that doesn’t look like it will be a problem as Lagopoulos was wearing a GPS the entire time to track his mileage. Also, written records of each lap were kept and witnessed by four people and a marker in front of the launch area was continuously videotaped during the record attempt.

Beyond setting records, Lagopoulos was also raising money for Project Dream and the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which helps families of children that suffer from cystic fibrosis.

Lagopoulos’ 886-mile record comes just two weeks after Mike Pagliccia of Naples, Fla. set the record by riding 753 miles in a single day.
