This is my second machine - been riding for 12 years - the previous u...nit was a 1998 GTX RFI.
This is a large machine with some weight to it - 980 lbs. It could not be described as nimble but the substantial size/weight helps the ride quality.
The suspension takes some getting use to and seems a bit tippy to me at low speeds. That may take some getting use to, but that is first impression.
The unit is super comfortable in the choppy water though, between the suspended deck and the extra-cushy seat, it is better than I would have hoped.
There are more features than anyone needs. Those that like bells and whistles will be more than satisfied.
The WOW factor comes from the ride and acceleration. This thing pulls like you won't believe and just keeps pulling. The acceleration is off the chart! I was out in big water with some chop so I didn't push too hard - not to mention I am going to be very "break-in-period compliant" but in calmer water this thing is going to be an absolute blast to drive!
The launch off waves is incredible.
The i-drive system takes some getting use to. It is fairly intuitive though and you don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure it out. Play around by the dock for a few minutes and you will have it.
Braking is new to me - I tried it at modest speed and it works. I don't know how necessary it is though - if you stay away from other people and stuff - you won't need it.
The storage space is way down on this thing though. If you want a cruising machine with lots of storage, you will be disappointed.
Another downside, I found it didn't start up easily. I had to monkey around with the starting sequence to get the thing to fire. I am going back to the owners' manual to see if I am doing something wrong there (i did read it already though).
Not that happy with the way cruise works either. I had hoped it would hold a set speed like a car for cruising. It does not work like that - you need to be on the throttle. I know there are safety issues ok but on a long cruise the set speed sure would be nice.
Also, lots of black "harder" plastic in the finishes so I am wondering how that will hold up over time. We'll see. If it does as well as the GTX RFI I had for 12 years I will be really happy.
Overall, it is an impressive beast of a machine. Pricey, but if you can swing it, why not!? Then, sit down and HANG ON TIGHT because YAAAAHOOOOO!!
